ABOL at the Long Night of Museums 2024

Are names written in the genes? We pursued this question at the Long Night of Museums on Saturday, October 5, 2024, until late into the night!

Different aspects of DNA barcoding were presented by the ABOL coordination team and the central research laboratories: Visitors were welcome to try extract DNA from tomatoes live, put together a DNA alignment, and take a manual environmental DNA (eDNA) sample from a bucket of pond water, as well as try on our heavy and unwieldy outdoor backpack for eDNA sampling. A showcase with a species riddle and various insights into the structure of the Austrian DNA reference database were also presented. We would like to thank all visitors for the exciting conversations and interest in our work!
